Citizen Jesse
Minnesota's unexpected new governor is an extraordinary, paradoxical
character. Yet given his supporting roles in Schwarzenegger vehicles like
Predator, he didn't exactly seem like the ideal candidate for Split
Screen. That is until T.J. and Beth Larson, our eyes and ears in
Minneapolis, sent us a local indie film starring Jesse.

AV Geeks
Ahh...16mm educational films. Sex education. Head Lice. Hemo the
Magnificent. These were films, not video tapes. That part of our culture
would be completely lost without collectors, collectors like North
Carolina's Skip Elsheimer. Joe Corey profiles Skip and his collection.
They used to be housemates. When Joe moved out, 8,000 films moved in.

Ugly George & Maggie
Remember Ugly George? The Manhattan public access peeping Tom who spent
his days scouring NYC streets in search of women who'd peel for his
camera? Split Screen regulars Doug Stone and P.H. O'Brien arranged a
meeting with George (or is that "Ugly") and documentarian Maggie Hadleigh
West, whose recently completed The War Zone examines men's public
attention to women. Or, as she's fond of calling it, "street abuse." It's
a camera-in-hand confrontation. |
