Phil Bertelsen
After working 5 yeas as Producer/Director of public affairs television for both cable and PBS,
Phil Bertelsen decided to pursue a career in film and began New York University's Tech School of
the Arts Master's program There he received NYU's coveted Johnson Scholarship and Spike Lee
Fellowship His most recent film, AROUND THE TIME, was honored with a First Place, Wasserman
Award as Best Film at NYU then went on to win a Student Academy Award in the dramatic category
and a Roger Award for Best American Short at the New York/Avignon Film Festival
Born and raised in New Jersey, Phil has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from
Rutgers University and recently completed his MFA course requirements at NYU. He has traveled
extensively throughout the U.S., as well as Africa and Central America.
He arrived in New York City in 1993 after leaving Philadelphia PA. where he helped
launch public broadcast station WYBE-TV which is celebrating its seventh year on the air.
A proponent of the belief that life is stranger than fiction, Phil is currently
developing a feature-length documentary while writing a screenplay inspired by true
events for his next project.
