Indiewood came out in droves Monday to celebrate the Gotham preem of Wellspring's "Reel Paradise."
Doc, by Steve James, follows indie icon John Pierson and his family in Fiji, where they spent a year running a movie theater.
Son Wyatt, who is portrayed as not having much faith in arthouse cinema, said he was unaffected by the presence of cameras. "I didn't
think this film was going to get made, so I didn't think it was a big deal," he said.
Meanwhile, the elder Pierson, in a bit of trouble for
screening "Jackass" -- which was subsequently banned on the archipelago -- said he had no regrets about the experience, adding, "I'm proud I'm
a fugitive."
In attendance at the Tribeca Cinemas was exec producer Kevin Smith, who joked that when he heard Pierson would be showing
films to the natives, his first thought was, "Maybe he'll take 'Jersey Girl.' "
